Meet Catherine Ford.
A Mental Health Counselor and Addiction Specialist.
I graduated with a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University. I am a "Double Deac” as I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University as well.

I think I may have been destined to be a therapist as my father was an amazing psychologist. Over time, with his guidance and taking in bits of his knowledge, it just became a part of me.

I believe in the philosophy of “Ubuntu” – humanity to others. Outside of being a therapist, I am also the founder of Soup Moms of South Africa, a non-profit organization that works to eliminate food insecurity in South Africa. In my free-time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love playing and watching sports (Go Panthers!). When the weather is nice, I enjoy hiking with my dog Levi.

Therapies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT)
I have experience working with children, adults, and families in a variety of settings. In my work with clients, I tailor my treatment plan to meet the unique needs for each client. I often implement the following:

Acceptance and Commitment
Therapy (ACT)
Motivational Interviewing
(MI)
Dialetical Behavioral Therapy
(DBT)
The best part of what I do is being a catalyst in helping people help themselves.
I approach therapy with the belief that everyone deserves to feel like they are the expert of their own life. I don't believe there is just one therapeutic formula, I believe in implementing theories and adjusting my approach to meet the individual, unique needs of each client. The foundation of my approach is influenced by humanistic principles of counseling; particularly empathy, self-reflection/self-discovery, autonomy, authenticity, and treating my clients with unconditional positive regard, focusing on their strengths.

I believe that self-reflection and concrete direction are imperative to the therapy process. What we tell ourselves day in and day out greatly impact on how we experience life. Our thoughts affect how we feel and the way we behave, so evaluating how we think about things is an important first step.

When you work with me, I will help you lay out all of the "puzzle pieces" of your life, then we will look at the big picture together. We’ll look at the things that are holding you back and create plans to overcome them. One-by-one, I’ll help you put all the pieces back together again to form the picture you set out to draw for yourself in the first place.
