I graduated from Wake Forest University with focuses in both Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. Prior to moving to North Carolina, I double degreed at the University of Maine at Farmington, studying both Psychology and Elementary Education. While I loved being able to play soccer and explore the beauty of Maine, I do prefer the "shorter winters" of my new state.
I am proud to call myself a life-long learner and a nerd, to which you may hear me speak to what I learned in my readings each week as well as how I can connect it to a Marvel metaphor. Through my experience in school systems, coaching, and working in multiple levels of care, I continuously aspire to further my knowledge with a growth mindset that I aspire to cultivate in our sessions. Outside of sessions I value the ability to support local sports teams (Go Charlotte FC!), hike the mountains with my puppy Koda, and train for races around the US!
Meet Christopher Roberts.
A Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor.
While being honored to be a part of your journey, I am passionate towards the goal of empowering others to be their own self-advocate and agent for change.
Wellness and empowerment are two (of many) words I root my work with clients, as I have seen how they can further clients progress towards their goals. I see my clients as their own agent for change and also strive to assist in their ability to further their understanding of self. My clients will quickly hear me speak to topics of internal dialogue, self-care, and stress management, as well as assessing wellness through a bio-psycho-social model (a multifaceted perspective of how biological, psychological and social aspects of our life intertwine in our mental health). I also value the importance of how trauma can impact our present self, always being open to exploring how our past may impact our emotions and/or interactions with others today.
In my time with clients, therapeutic techniques will be used from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing models. We will work in a model of trauma-informed care and foundational aspects of my approach are rooted in the principles of Person-Centered Therapy. We will discuss the regulation and understanding of emotion, alongside areas of your lifestyle, career, and relationships that may be impacting your functionality or creating possible hardship. I strive for my clients to gain insight and self-awareness that will help them develop and strengthen their personal understanding of themselves as an individual. I strive to be a beneficial resource to my clients, while also providing appropriate communication with guardians/stakeholders when appropriate. I ask individuals to explore cognitions, relationships and events in a way that will assist in their process of understanding and analysis of self.

Some of the diagnoses I have the most experience working with are depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and autism. I am happy to answer questions about diagnoses that are not listed and also value the ability to assist in connecting you to a local resource that can assist you on your journey, so feel free to ask!
Can I see clients if they are outside of North Carolina?
Yes! At this time, I can see clients if they are in the states of North and South Carolina. I have taken the appropriate steps to become a Board-Certified Telehealth Professional Counselor in South Carolina, to accompany my LCMHC license from the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors. I am also continuously following updates/news regarding increasing reciprocity opportunities to offer therapy to individuals in other states.
